Who Can Request Us

For wildland fire response and other all-risk incidents we typically are "name" requested by Medical Unit Leaders, Safety Officers, Incident Commanders, or simply by putting in a Resource Order through standard dispatch/GACC channels for:

BILL ARSENAULT
LINE QUALIFIED PARAMEDIC
WITH ALS EQUIPMENT AND 4x4 POV AUTHORIZED

Bureau of Land Management, Boise District (ID-BOD)
Boise Interagency Dispatch (ID-BDC)
Boise, ID
208-384-3400

You might be asking why the ALS equipment and POV notice on the Resource Order.  It facilitates a much easier movement by being able to bring a full response package.  Remember, we are Federal "AD" employees' typically hired through the BLM.  Therefore we are given an hourly rate plus miles for the vehicle use and we do not charge the patient (wildland firefighter) for any supplies or care provided.  We often do a one for one exchange for supplies used with the local ambulance service that may have to transport the patient.

When driving our vehicle, it lessens the stress of the MEDL or GSUL in having to find a vehicle, especially during a busy fire season when this is much harder to do.  It also allows us to carry all the required equipment to adequately care for the firefighter or civilian we may come into contact with until a local EMS agency can arrive.

This is much different for contract EMTs' who have different rules due to a contractual agreement.  We are required to follow the Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations and the National Interagency Mobilization Guide just as any other federal employee under fire operations.
