Equipment

As an Idaho Licensed ALS Non-transport EMS agency, Wildland Fire Rescue is required to follow the same equipment standards that are in place for any 911 transport service with the exception of one thing, an ambulance. While we may not transport from an easily accessible location to a hospital, we do utilize wildfire agency contracted helicopters, four-wheelers, and SUVs’ to get the patient to a meeting point for the local ground and air ambulances.
Some may say,"That's too much equipment for the wildland EMS environment." We beg to differ. Much of it is in an easily packaged set-up for walking the fire line or staging at a helibase for cargo net sling-load. This equipment is designed to be at the patient's side; not in the ambulance back at the city's ambulance station. Surprisingly and unfortunately, we have had to use almost all of it at one time or another for line crews as well as overheard and the occasional local civilian caught in the line of fire.
